THE WAITING ROOM: Waiting in the Desert

Waiting for that package to arrive, waiting in line at the DMV, waiting to check out at the grocery store, waiting to pick up our kids from practice. So much of our time and energy is spent waiting. Often the waiting feels heavy, unbearable even. Waiting to hear back from the doctor, waiting to find that person, waiting for a child to be born, waiting for the hurt and the heartache to subside. Two thousand years ago, Israel was waiting. They were waiting for deliverance, waiting for salvation, waiting for the Messiah. The story of Jesus’ birth reminds us that the world we live in is not as it should be. It also reminds us that the world we live in is not as it will be.
